Liquid CO2 Injection into Oil Fields
Liquid CO2 injection is a highly effective means of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), especially in reservoirs more than 600 meters (2,000 ft) deep. The CO2 is basically injected into the reservoir where it mixes with the oil and acts like a solvent, thus allowing more oil to be pumped out and extracted at the surface.
According to the US Department of Energy, 30 to 60 percent, or more, of the reservoir’s original oil can be extracted using EOR techniques.
